From the stone steps you see the priests in front of you and a slice of the crowd. From a boat you see the curve: Assi toward Dashashwamedh, Manikarnika, and the long line of ghats that guidebooks call the 84. The diyas read as one shoreline only from the water. A boat seat is not the whole journey
